There are a few things you can do to make your document look the way you want in the Web editor. Remember, if the formatting in your document is complicated or important, you should use the Word editor.
If the formatting is simple, then you can build it outhere. If you’ve used Google Docs or MS Word before, most of the functionality should be pretty familiar to you. The things that function slightly differently are:
- Tables
- Lists and numbering
- Adding logos and images
Tables
To create a table, click on the table button in the toolbar and select the number of columns and rows you want.
You can drag the borders to change the sizes of the cells and you can use the tooltip to do things like add and delete columns and rows.
The only thing that might look unfamiliar to you is the cell and table properties pop-ups when you select a table.
If you want to change the properties of a cell, click into the table button on the toolbar and select Cell > Properties. Some things to note in the pop-up:
- Width: this is expressed in % and refers to how much of the table the column takes up. So, if it’s 33.33%, it will take up a third of the table.
- Height: this is expressed in pixels. Have a play to see what suits your row.
- Colour: to change the colour, you’ll need to find the right HTML colour code. You can do this on this website: https://htmlcolorcodes.com/color-picker/
If you want to change the properties of the whole table, select Table properties in the tooltip. Some things to note:
- Width: this is expressed in % and refers to how much of the page the whole table takes up.
- Height: this is again expressed in pixels. Have a play to see what suits your rows.
- Colour: to change the colour, you’ll need to find the right HTML colour code. You can do this on this website: https://htmlcolorcodes.com/color-picker/
- Note that you can make the borders transparent by typing ‘transparent’ into the ‘Border colour’ option.
Lists and numbering
Lists function almost exactly the same as in MS Word. The only thing to keep in mind is that you can use either lists or numbered headers.
If you’re building out an agreement with numbered clauses, it’s likely better to use numbered headers. You can access the Numbering feature in the toolbar.
You can restart numbering in a document by clicking the icon on the right of the Numbering feature: it’s an arrow making a circle with a dot at the centre.
Adding logos and images
Select the insert/edit image icon. It will need to be inserted via a publicly available URL.
Image from your website:
- right click on your logo or image on the website
- press ‘Copy Image Address’ and
- paste the URL into the image pop-up.
If the image is not on a public website, you can use an online storage platform, such as Tinypic or Imgbb. To do this:
- upload the image to the online storage platform
- create a sharable and publicly available link
- paste the URL into the image pop-up
For both methods, insert a description of the image and press OK!
