Josef is a legal automation platform that enables lawyers and legal professionals to create bots using their expert knowledge. Bots built on Josef can:
- automate lawyer-client conversations;
- produce legal documents; and
- provide legal guidance and advice.
Once they’re launched, bots can be shared as a link or embedded on a website for easy access on mobile or desktop.
Users (whether clients, other lawyers or legal staff) interact with bots in the way you designed.
Types of bots you can build
Bots built on Josef are used across the legal industry, from commercial to plaintiff law, and from top-tier firms to sole traders, to in-house teams.
Examples of different types of bots include:
- Intake and triage bots
- Document automation bots
- FAQ bots
- Custom client-specific bots
- Public-facing bots
- Administrative bots
- Educational bots
More details on these and some examples are below:
Intake and triage bots
These bots are designed to gather user details and triage them based on legal and other criteria. Examples of these bots include public-facing intake and triage bots from plaintiff law firms and community legal centres.
In other cases, these bots have been used by in-house teams to streamline the intake process for legal queries across the organisation.
Document automation bots
These bots automate the production of legal documents, like letters, agreements and forms, using information from users to populate and customise a template document.
Examples of document automation bots include bots to produce high-volume agreements, like leases, financial documents and agreements.
Document automation bots can be used as an internal-facing tool to encourage consistency and efficiency, or as external-facing tools that enable clients to produce their own documents.
You can see an example here.
FAQ bots
FAQ bots provide answers to frequently asked legal questions.
Examples of these bots include bots built by in-house teams to handle high-volume and lower complexity questions by other business units. Other examples include bots built by law firms for clients that can explain a particular area of the law.
Custom-built bots for particular clients
These bots can provide advice/guidance, draft documents or engage in lawyer-client conversations. The difference is that they are custom-built for a particular client, rather than for many people, or for internal use.
Examples of these bots include bots that provide advice to managers on a particular issue that arises frequently in their particular role.
Public-facing bots
Again, these bots can provide advice/guidance, draft documents or engage in lawyer-client conversations.
The difference is that they are public-facing, meaning that they provide legal services to anyone who has access. Examples of these bots include bots that provide legal guidance and documentation in many areas of the law, including employment law, health law and privacy law. You can see an example here.
Administrative bots
These bots are not necessarily legal in function, though they provide support to lawyers and non-legal staff in the work they do. An example is a bot that automates the production of a costs agreement for a new client.
Educational bots
These are bots that provide educational and instructional information rather than providing legal services. An example of such a bot can be seen here, a project developed by the American Bar Association on Josef.
